Keno

Keno is a lottery style game that is also played in both online and traditional casinos. There are several variations of the game played as lotteries in Australia, but the core principles of the game are essentially the same: Players choose up to ten numbers as their selections from a given range (selections are usually referred to as Spots, so a Spot 10 entry means a selection of ten numbers). When the draw takes place, a specified quantity of numbers is drawn from the same range. The aim of the game is for players to match as many of their selections as possible, with the top prize going to those who select the maximum numbers allowed and who succeed in matching all of them.

If there is no Spot 10 player who matches all of their selections, the prize fund for that outcome is rolled over to the next draw. Repeated rollovers are commonplace, and for this reason the top prize in Tatts Keno often reaches seven figures.

South Australian Keno

South Australian Keno draws take place every three and a half minutes. Fortunately, players can choose to enter their chosen numbers for multiple draws in advance, saving paperwork (or virtual paperwork for online players) for those who are inclined to play repeatedly. The player can choose anything from 1 to 10 numbers from 1 to 80, and when the draw takes place 20 numbers are selected from the same range. The more numbers a player matches, the more they can win, as follows:

Number of Selections Selections Matched Prize Paid ($)
10 10 1,000,000 (Minimum)
10 9 10,000
10 8 1,000
10 7 100
10 6 5
10 5 2
9 9 150,000
9 8 2,500
9 7 200
9 6 10
9 5 4
9 4 2
8 8 50,000
8 7 500
8 6 50
8 5 8
8 4 2
7 7 8,000
7 6 200
7 5 20
7 4 4
6 6 1,300
6 5 50
6 4 5
6 3 2
5 5 500
5 4 20
5 3 2
4 4 120
4 3 8
3 3 32
3 2 2
2 2 12
1 1 3

Although the top prize here is stated as $1 million, it is possible for the top prize for matching 10 out of 10 selections to exceed that sum thanks to a feature which sometimes allows jackpot money to be added to the prize pool. This is not quite a rollover feature, but it is similar. Where more than one player matches 10 out of 10, the pool is divided between the winning players.

Keno Coin Toss

Players who take part in the South Australian Keno game can also choose to play an associated Keno Coin Toss game. This is a side bet that the 20 numbers drawn will be mostly Heads (in the range 1 to 40) mostly Tails (in the range 41 to 80) or Even (10 numbers Heads and 10 numbers Tails). A correct bet on Heads or Tails (the odds of which are 1 in 2.5) doubles the stake of the player and a correct bet on Evens (odds of 1 in 5) quadruples their stake.

Lucky Keno

The Lucky Keno game is played in Victoria and Tasmania, and is operated by Intralot. The game replaced an earlier Tatts Keno game and takes place once each day at 8pm local time. Participants can select anything from 3 to 10 numbers from the range 1 to 80 and when the game takes place 20 numbers are draw. As with the South Australian Keno game, the more numbers a player matches the more they will win. The prize schedule is as follows:

Number of Selections Selections Matched Prize Paid ($)
10 10 2,000,000
10 9 5,000
10 8 500
10 7 25
10 0 3
9 9 200,000
9 8 3,000
9 7 100
9 6 10
9 5 5
8 8 30,000
8 7 800
8 6 80
8 5 5
7 7 5,000
7 6 100
7 5 10
7 4 5
6 6 2,000
6 5 40
6 4 4
5 5 450
5 4 20
4 4 100
4 3 5
3 3 20
3 2 2

The prize pool for matching 10 out of 10 numbers in this game cannot exceed $2 million, so if more than one player achieves the feat the prize pool will be distributed equally between the winners.
