Soccer Pools - The Pools
Soccer Pools are, as the name suggests, pooled prize games that revolve around the popular sport of soccer. The game, generally referred to as simple “the pools” is operated by South Australian Lotteries and is similar to the football pools games played in the UK, but in this case it is the ranking of soccer results that is used to determine the winning numbers for lottery purposes.
Every week a list of soccer matches scheduled to be played each Saturday is generated and these are numbered 1 to 38. An additional selection of reserve matches numbered 39 to 60 is also generated. When these soccer matches are played, the games are ranked according to result. Score draws are ranked highest, with the number of goals determining how high. A 4-4 draw is therefore ranked higher than a 3-3 draw, which is ranked higher than a 2-2 draw, and so on. Scoreless draws are ranked below score draws, then away wins and home wins.
The numbers of the six matches that are ranked the highest are deemed to be the winning numbers. The number of the match ranked seventh is deemed to be the “supplementary” number.
Players select six numbers for their pools entry, and two entries are required as a minimum. The amount a player wins depends on how many numbers they match, as illustrated in the table below:
Division |
How to Win |
Prize |
One |
Match all 6 winning numbers |
65% of prize fund |
Two |
Match 5 winning numbers + the supplementary |
2% of prize fund |
Three |
Match 5 winning numbers |
6% of prize fund |
Four |
Match 4 winning numbers |
15% of prize fund |
Five |
Match 3 winning numbers + the supplementary |
12% of prize fund |
Entering the Soccer Pools game is a simple case of completing a pools coupon at an authorised lottery retailer. Serious soccer fans can make their own predictions based on the previous form of teams, but they can just as easily select their numbers at random as they would for any other lottery game. An Easi-Pick option is available and if checked the lottery terminal will generate six numbers at random for the player at the point of purchase.
