Do I need to be Australian?
Generally speaking, it is not necessary for players of Australian lottery games to have Australian citizenship or to even live in Australia. If you are in Australia then you can buy a ticket from a lottery retailer just like anyone else. If you are located outside Australia then you will need to purchase your ticket(s) from an official online retailer.

What is a Full System
A Full System is a effectively a full permutation of numbers which guarantees that if these selections include all of the main numbers drawn in the actual lottery event, one of their lottery lines will contain them, thus winning the top prize. The name of the Full System usually includes the number of the selections that the system covers, so a Full System 8 would allow the player to select eight numbers rather than the standard quantity, which is usually just six. The main disadvantage with the Full System is that it can take a large number of entries to guarantee that all possibilities are covered, and the more numbers the player selects, the more expensive this approach is.

What is a Reduced System?
A Reduced System is similar to a Full System, but in this case the selections of the lottery player are not covered for every possible combination. Instead, the selections are wheeled so that the player gets a certain level of guarantee if they match a certain quantity of numbers among their selections. The downside here is that there are still some “holes” in the lines entered, but this is more than balanced by the benefit of the entry costing less overall than a Full System. As with the Full System, the Reduced System is usually named after the quantity of selections the player can make. A Reduced System 12 therefore allows the player to select twelve numbers.

What is a Syndicate?
A syndicate is any group of lottery players that participate in a game collectively with the agreement that the members will share all winnings that they are lucky enough to receive. Most syndicates are formed between friends, family members and colleagues in specific workplaces, and these tend to have quite a small number of members. However, there are also professional syndicates that have hundreds or even thousands of members spread over a wide geographical area.

Are winnings taxable?
If you live in Australia and you win an Australian lottery then you will not usually have to pay any tax on your winnings. However, if you live outside Australia then you may be required to pay tax on your fortuitous income. It is always a good idea to check your personal tax liability before playing any lottery game.
