Oz Lotteries
Considering the relative size of Australia to countries such as the USA and the UK, Australia has a surprisingly large number of lotteries. Most of them are specific to certain states or to certain groups of states due to the fact that most are operated by the state, even if indirectly.
Some of the main state-owned organisations that operate lotteries (in Australia are in alphabetical order) Golden Casket in Queensland, Lotterywest in Western Australia, New South Wales Lotteries in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, and South Australian Lotteries in South Australia. Tattersall’s is a private organisation that also operates lotteries in several states. You can view summaries of the most popular state lotteries on our State Lotto page.
In addition to state lotteries, there are several lottery games that are played nationally. The Saturday Tattslotto, operated by Tattersall’s is one example. Others are Oz Lotto, Powerball, Tatts Keno and Soccer Pools.
On top of all of this, Australian lottery players can participate in instant win games (scratchies).
