Considering the relative size of Australia to countries such as the USA and the UK, Australia has a surprisingly large number of lotteries. Most Australian lottery games are specific to certain states or to certain groups of states due to the fact that most are operated by the state, even if indirectly.

Some of the main state-owned Australian lottery organisations that operate lotteries (in alphabetical order) are Golden Casket in Queensland, Lotterywest in Western Australia, New South Wales Lotteries in the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, and South Australian Lotteries in South Australia.
