Birthday Celebrations
EuroMillions celebrated its fourth birthday with a special Superdraw on Friday 8th February, and the jackpot of €130 million (that’s around £95 million for UK readers) was some €30 million more than the first EuroMillions Superdraw that was held last year to celebrate its third birthday.
If you haven’t played in a Superdraw before then it’s always worth buying a ticket or two (or setting up a quick lottery syndicate and buying even more), because the jackpot fund can’t roll over. Instead, if nobody qualifies for a EuroMillions Superdraw jackpot prize (beating odds of 1 in 76,275,360), the money rolls down to the next highest level that does have winners. This is what happened on Friday, when sixteen players who matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star shared the jackpot fund between them.
This is why I love Superdraws; because if nobody scoops the jackpot the second tier prize winners can wake up the next morning as brand new millionaires.
No matter how many times I say or write about that kind of financial transformation, the idea of waking up for the first time as a new millionaire never fails to give me a thrill. Personally, I wouldn’t care if I won €130 million, €13 million or €1.3 million – the impact on my life, and on the lives of those around me, would be enormous.
Birthday celebrations are always fun, but when we’re talking about the birthday of a multi-national lottery – and a guaranteed jackpot Superdraw to mark the event – we really have something special to remember.
