Lottery Syndicates

In yesterday's post Win the Lottery I explained why playing the lottery as a syndicate member is a good thing for those players who want to win prizes more often. Today I want to discuss how to do just that from a practical perspective.

There are two ways to play as a syndicate member. The first is to join an existing syndicate which is already up and running. Syndicates can often be found in the workplace or in social clubs, and many of these will be happy to welcome you as a new member unless they already have as many people on board as they can handle.

There are some syndicates operating via the internet, but unless you are careful you could end up joining a syndicate of thousands and this means that your share of any jackpot or second-tier prize would be fairly modest. I would personally join an existing syndicate only if there are twenty members or less. This would give each member a payout of 50,000 (of whatever currency) for every 1,000,000 the syndicate wins.

If you can't find an existing lottery syndicate that you want to join, the second approach is to start your own syndicate from scratch. This isn't at all complicated, and involves just a few simple steps.

4Get a group of people together. You can form a lottery syndicate with as few as two people, though somewhere between six and twenty is more ideal. You will find lottery enthusiasts in most places, so chat with friends, neighbours, family members and work colleagues until you find enough people who want to join you in the syndicate.

4 Agree on the ground rules. You need to decide between you how much each member of the syndicate will pay for tickets on a weekly basis. You also need to specify which lottery or lotteries you will play, how many draws you will play each week and how you will select the numbers for the tickets.

4 Start playing! Make sure you stick to the syndicate rules and that all other members do the same. It's a good idea for one member to be responsible for buying the tickets each week and distributing any prize money (this is usually the syndicate founder). Small prizes can, if all members agree, be used to fund the purchase of extra tickets for the following draw or for the next rollover.

As I said yesterday, playing as a syndicate doesn't guarantee that you will win a jackpot by any means, but the fact that you enjoy a share of more tickets for each draw does increase your chances, and that alone makes lottery syndicates very worthwhile in my book. Good luck!
