Lotto Thinking
I recently read that the National Lottery has invested £10 million in a new advertising campaign that is designed to celebrate and encourage the ‘Lotto way of thinking’. For those of you who haven’t seen any of the TV commercials, Lotto thinking can best be described as optimism, thinking big and looking on the bright side of life.
As a lottery player for many years, I haven’t really thought of myself as thinking in a particularly different way to anyone else, but when I stop and consider the idea, it really does seem to hold water. I do have a sense of optimism about life, a preference for thinking about solutions rather than problems and what self-help authors would probably call a “positive mental attitude”. And maybe that’s what makes me willing to risk a pound or two every week to try and beat odds that are, when all is said and done, extremely lengthy.
Of course, many people who don’t play the lottery also think in the same way, but in this instance the lottery organisers are right to encourage more of it. Yes, I know that the lottery want to increase Lotto Thinking so that they can increase sales, but I think that a positive mental attitude has many more benefits that aren’t related to the Lotto, EuroMillions or any other lottery game.
Learning to think more positively helps to reduce stress levels. It focuses the mind to start looking for solutions to the problems we face in life instead of simply worrying about them. It makes us feel more energetic and willing to take on new challenges. This willingness to give things a go naturally increases our odds of succeeding, and when this happens we get positive feedback from the world around us and our positive mental attitude is strengthened even more.
The bottom line is that thinking in an optimistic and positive way simply makes life a lot more fun and enjoyable than it would be otherwise. It’s for that reason that I am happy to go along with the lottery organisers and encourage everyone reading this lotto blog to embrace the Lotto way of thinking if they haven’t already. If doing so helps you to win, that’s great. But even if you don’t win a lottery prize, you’ll win in a multitude of other ways that are just as important – you can count on it!
