Your Millionaire Lifestyle
How would a lottery jackpot change your life? This is a question that I have been thinking about myself lately, and I have come to the conclusion that most of the changes that a win of £1 million or more can bring would be rather cosmetic.
Initially, I’d do pretty much the same as many other people. I’d pay off the mortgage, buy a bigger house, buy a couple of cars for myself and the wife and put two lumps of cash into trust for my two kids. I’d then spend a few months treating myself to the latest gadgets and taking trips to far-away places that I haven’t yet got around to visiting.
But after all of that initial spending, I realise that my life wouldn’t change a great deal. Yes, I’d be a whole lot richer than before the jackpot win. And I would be in the nice position of working for pleasure and fulfilment rather than working for a living. But essentially my life would remain the same. I’d have the same friends, same relatives, and the same view on things.
Although we’ve all heard winners say that their win hasn’t changed them, we often laugh at such comments and argue that this can’t possibly be the case. But really, when you sit down to think about it, money only brings about surface changes, not happiness. The people we are remains the same, albeit amplified. So, if you’re a miserly son-of-a-gun today, you’d be even more miserly as a millionaire. And if you’re a generous soul today you’d be even more generous.
So let me ask you... what would your millionaire lifestyle be like? Let’s assume that you have enjoyed a few months of spending money like water and getting the thrill of wealth out of your system. After that, what would you do with your time? How would you spend your days and nights? Who would you associate with, and why?
Answering these questions and others like them can be a really helpful way to put lotteries into perspective. Yes, you will still love playing lotteries, and you will continue to enjoy the idea of spending a few months splurging on a new home, cars, clothes, holidays and all the other great things that money can buy. But underneath all of that you will know that essentially your life wouldn’t change as much as most people imagine. And that means that the life you enjoy right at this moment is really only cosmetically different from the one you would enjoy as a jackpot winner.
In other words, you’re already living your millionaire lifestyle. You just don’t yet have the bank balance to go with it...
