Lottery Grants
As you may have read elsewhere on this site, 28p from every £1 raised from lottery sales goes to good causes via lottery grants. You can find details of the lottery grants that have previously been awarded by visiting the official government site at www.lottery.culture.gov.uk. You will find that you can access ready-made searches by country/region, local authority, constituency and total grants awarded, or you can use the Advanced Search facility if you already have a more specific idea about the information you are looking for.
If you want to apply for a grant then you should visit the website for Good Causes or contact one of the Lottery Distribution Bodies listed below. These are arranged in four separate categories for the Arts, Sport, Heritage and the Big Lottery Fund.
Arts
There are four national arts councils and two film councils that, as you would expect, award grants to support projects related to the arts and cinema.

Sport
Lottery money is granted to the sporting community through five Lottery Distribution Bodies and the Big Lottery Fund. Grants can be awarded for help in buying land, building and construction and buying equipment. Of course, before a grant is awarded the project must be approved by the relevant body and will need to meet certain criteria. For example, projects must serve the needs of the local community and have other funding apart from that sought from the lottery.

Heritage
The Heritage Lottery Fund awards grants to projects that are related to the heritage of the United Kingdom. This encompasses projects relating to natural heritage, buildings, museums, language and tradition. Since 1994 the Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded more than £3.97 billion to tens of thousands of projects.

Big Lottery Fund
The Big Lottery Fund is so called because it is the biggest distributor of lottery money in the UK, and handles around 50% of all the money that the lottery raises for good causes. It awards money to a wide range of worthy projects, including those that are designed to bring about community regeneration on a massive scale.
