180 Days to claim
All lottery games require players to check their numbers and to make a claim for any prize they have won within a certain amount of time. If a player fails to claim any prize they are due before the stated deadline, their prize is forfeited.
In the UK, for example, ticket holders are given a period os 180 days (nearly six months) in which to make their claim. If the prize(s) are not claimed in that period the prize(s) are forfeited and usually go towards the Good Causes. In the US, though, Powerball tickets are valid for 365 days (one year) from the date of the drawing. So make sure you read the small print if you will be unable to claim a prize immediately.
Claiming a lottery prize is not generally a complex matter. In most places, modest lottery wins can be claimed directly from an official lottery retailer, such as the one that you bought the ticket from in the first place. Larger prizes may need to be claimed from specific retail outlets or from the lottery operator itself. Instructions on making a claim are generally found on the reverse of the lottery ticket, though they can sometimes be obtained separately from the retailer in leaflet form.
