When Pembrokeshire Lotto player Yvonne White
was given a tarot card reading by her mother-in-law
Winnie White, the fortune teller told her that
a big win was on the cards. A few days later,
those words were proved surprisingly accurate
- Yvonne landed a win of £86,110 by matching
five numbers plus the bonus ball in the draw
held on 24 June.
Yvonne usually plays the same set of numbers
every week, but on this occasion she had completed
the Lotto slip without her glasses and made
a mistake. Having quite a strong belief in fate,
she allowed the mistake to stand, and her "accidentally
chosen" numbers turned out to be the ones
that would bring her the predicted good fortune.
However, Yvonne didn't immediately realise just
how big her win really was, and for a while
she believed she had won just £50.
"It's still sinking in really," Yvonne
told lottery officials shortly after the win,
"but my mother-in-law was quite specific
about the win - right down to the fact that
it would be a Saturday not a Wednesday and that
it wouldn't be a jackpot but still a big win.
To be honest, I was thinking £50 was a
big win so I was stunned when they checked my
ticket on the shop and I found out it was more
than £80,000."
Yvonne, who is married with three adult children,
has been learning to drive in recent weeks,
so it comes as no surprise to hear that she
plans to spend some of her windfall on a brand
new Mini Cooper.
"A nice new car is top of my list as most
of my family lives in London, so I'll definitely
be making a trip to see them to spoil my children
and grandchildren, who I haven't seen for quite
a while," she said. "That's about
as far as I've got with planning at the moment,
but I'm sure there'll be plenty more things
that spring to mind - I'm just hoping the cards
stay lucky!"
There's no doubting that the finger of fortune
was pointing squarely at Yvonne on the day she
bought her ticket at Tesco in Haverfordwest.
Maybe Camelot should now think about hiring
her mother-in-law Winnie to help us all out.
Who knows, she could be the next Mystic Meg!
