Lottery Intervention at Dewsbury Moor

Dewsbury Moor in Leeds will always be known as the home of Shannon Matthews and the abduction of the girl by her own parents. Highlighted by the ordeal was the fact that the area is so rundown but now thanks to National Lottery intervention from the good causes fund, the area is to get an injection of cash to improve the living conditions and facilities for people in the area.

The Lottery grant from the fund for good causes from the Big Lottery Fund and it’s likely to be the first of many grants of this kind as our new coalition government change the way that lottery money is spent for the first time in years.

The £1 million lottery grant will be a much-needed cash injection for the area, providing amenities and facilities for the residents who live there and go some way to closing the gap of poverty, evident in estates right across the UK.

Residents from the Dewsbury Moor area will be asked for their contributions and feedback into the project with the hope that the Big Lottery Fund can give residents exactly what they need.

The new government has promised big changes in the way lottery funding is distributed, just yesterday they announced the demise of several quangos including the UK Film council. Before both parties came to power they promised they would use more lottery cash for projects that are a strain on the economy, improving the lives of real people over things like the Arts and Film.

However it’s spent, it’s another way that the money from your lottery tickets is going to help people around the UK every single day. This cash will make a huge difference to the people of Dewsbury Moor and is surely just the start of projects such as this one across the UK.
