Lottery Loophole for Overseas Players

Last Updated: Wednesday 12th September 2018, 12:13

If you’re planning a summer holiday this year then you may find a lottery loophole prevents you from claiming your National Lottery win. The National Lottery website is available to use from anywhere in the world but if you read the small print you may find that if you play overseas you cannot claim that big lottery win.

The National Lottery website works wherever you are in the world but before you are tempted to purchase your lottery tickets while on your Spanish holiday then it would be a good idea to read the small print. That’s because it states that tickets purchased in the United States or any jurisdiction in which it is unlawful to play the games will invalidate the ticket and any win you may have with it.

Spain and many other European countries also fall into this bracket and purchasing tickets overseas may just invalidate any win you may have, even if you are a British citizen on holiday.

All is not lost though as the National Lottery website does allow you to purchase tickets for up to eight weeks in advance. This means that if you are planning a holiday  abroad and play the lottery online it’s probably a good idea to ensure you have your lottery tickets before you fly off on that summer break, you can always check your lottery results abroad, but buy those tickets before you leave.

We hope this gives you some clarification on the situation without having to read the tens of thousands of words of the Camelot small print on the National Lottery website. The lottery may be happy to take your money no matter where you are in the world but that doesn’t mean they’ll be so happy to pay out on a big win.
