A retired couple from Hilsea are celebrating
after winning the Lotto not once, but twice
on the same night. Pat and John Davies were
initially pleased to have matched four numbers
for a payout of £33. They then realised
that another line had scooped them a £2,254,572
share of the Rollover jackpot!
"It's funny because we never usually check
our ticket until Sunday morning," Pat explains,
"but on this occasion I said to John that
we should look on the internet. We were really
happy because we checked the first line and
we had four numbers. Then we checked our second
line and we had all six - we couldn't believe
that we could be lucky twice!
"We didn't know what to do, and we were
sure it must be wrong, so we phoned our daughter
Jane who then checked the numbers on the television.
She thought we must have made a mistake too,
but we hadn't. I was so worried about losing
the winning ticket but I didn't know where to
hide it. I thought about keeping it under the
clock or under the mattress, but eventually
I just put it in my purse because I was worried
I would forget where I had hidden it. We didn't
sleep at all that night.
"Luck was definitely on our side on Saturday,"
Pat continued. "We bought the ticket at
Tesco in Cosham High Street - which is where
my daughter, Sue, and my grand-daughter, Victoria,
both work - and the winning numbers were made
up of the ages of my daughters and grandchildren.
So we have a lot to thank our family for."
The retired couple are now looking forward
to spending some of their new-found wealth,
as Pat explains:
"We are still absolutely in shock but
very excited. The first thing on the shopping
list is a new laptop for my husband John and
a relaxing holiday. We have a very large family,
which includes five grandchildren and five great
grandchildren, so we are looking forward to
enjoying our win with them and making sure our
family is looked after."
