A syndicate of ten glass workers from Wales
are celebrating after matching five numbers
plus the bonus ball to win themselves a whopping
£154,026. The workers, who are all colleagues
at the Vizor Tempered Glass factory in Port
Talbot, call themselves "The Weekend Shift"
and they struck it lucky on 20 May.
The organiser of the syndicate is Fred Dickinson,
57, but he wasn't the first to notice the win
by any means. Instead, the news was brought
to his home by several other syndicate members
- along with a crate of beer to get the celebrations
underway.
"I couldn't believe it," Fred said.
"I went upstairs to get the ticket, which
was in a shoe box for safe keeping. Once I had
seen the winning numbers myself it really started to
sink in."
After kicking off their celebrations with a
few beers, the syndicate treated themselves
to a meal in Port Talbot and discussed how individual
members might spend their share of the winnings.
Fred, who lives with his wife Julie and their
sons Sean, 21, and Nathan, 16, has a pretty
clear idea of where his slice of the money will
go.
"I'll definitely be looking for a holiday
somewhere hot," he said. "Nathan has
already asked for the new X Box, but we will
probably invest the majority of the money. The
extra money will give us real financial security,
and peace of mind. The whole group is amazed
we won, and we will definitely keep playing
every week."
The Lotto line which The Weekend Shift syndicate
won with consisted of randomly selected numbers.
Which goes to prove that you don't need to do
much more than buy a lucky dip ticket to stand
the chance of celebrating a smashing win. Just
ask the Port Talbot glass workers!
