SuperEnalotto
SuperEnalotto was launched in Italy in 1997 to replace the countries previous Enalotto lottery game. These days though thanks to the internet people all over the world are taking part in the SuperEnalotto and its popularity has grown globally due to the fact that SuperEnalotto regularly produces jackpots of eight figures or more. The reason for these massive jackpots is largely because players have to match six main numbers from a range of 1 to 90 meaning the odds of winning are just 1 in 622,614,630.
The SuperEnalotto does not just contain one jackpot though as there are five different prize divisions and a Jolly number that is drawn which gives players the chance of winning the second division prize. The number of balls needed to win each division and the odds of this happening are detailed below:
| Prize Division | Numbers Matched | Odds of Winning |
|---|---|---|
Jackpot |
6 main numbers |
1 in 622,614,630 |
2 |
5 main numbers + Jolly |
1 in 103,769,105 |
3 |
5 main numbers |
1 in 1,235,346 |
4 |
4 main numbers |
1 in 11,907 |
5 |
3 main numbers |
1 in 327 |
SuperEnalotto players also have the option of purchasing an additional SuperStar number between 1 and 90. This SuperStar number is drawn by a separate lottery machine and if a SuperEnalotto player matches this number and three, four or five of the main draw numbers their prize is multiplied. If however a SuperEnalotto player matches the SuperStar number and none, one or two of the main numbers they win a consolation prize.
The SuperEnalotto is drawn every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and because the odds of winning the main jackpot are so slim it regularly rolls over resulting in even larger jackpots. Over the past twelve years there have been some massive SuperEnalotto wins including its biggest ever prize of €146.9 million that was paid out on Saturday 29th August 2009 which beat the previous SuperEnalotto record of €100.7 million that was set on Thursday 23rd October 2008.
SuperEnalotto and other World Lotteries
SuperEnalotto can easily be compared to the other big world lotteries; Euromillions, Powerball and Mega Millions due to the massive rollovers attracting players worldwide. The American Powerball and Mega Millions have also grown in popularity this year as the rules changed in 2010 to allow states to offer both lotteries whereas previously they had to pick one or the other.
