Largest Lottery Win in Canada
Canada's Lotto 6/49 has been creating big lottery jackpot winners since it was first drawn on Saturday 12th June 1982. Lotto 6/49 holds the Canadian record for both the largest jackpot ever won and the biggest payout on a single ticket, just ahead of the other major national game, Lotto Max.
On Saturday 17th October 2015, Zhe Wang of Mississauga, Ontario was the only Lotto 6/49 player to match all six main numbers and win a jackpot of CA$64 million. The top prize had rolled 11 times before Wang’s winning draw and she eventually came forward to pick up her cheque in March 2016.
Previously, the largest prize in Canadian lottery history was won on 13th April 2013 when four lucky ticket holders shared CA$63.4 million. Three of the winning tickets were sold in in British Columbia and the fourth was sold in Alberta, with all four winners choosing to collect their awards of CA$15.8 million anonymously.
Largest Lotto Max Jackpot
Lotto Max has a jackpot cap of CA$60 million, at which point any funds from ticket sales that would have been added to the jackpot are used for a series of Maxmillions draws, each worth CA$1 million. The cap was raised from its previous limit of CA$50 million on 17th July 2015, with the new top amount being reached for the first time on Friday 25th September 2015.
The first CA$60 million-winning Lotto Max ticket was owned by a 12-person syndicate from Canadian Black Book, a firm that publishes details of used cars in Markham, Ontario.
