House-Husband Cleans Up

Last Updated: Thursday 22nd January 2015, 09:27

Full-time dad and house-husband Roy Ryder won himself a very tidy £84,643 by matching five numbers and the bonus ball in the Lotto draw held on 3 June.

Roy, 39, decided to take care of his children Adam, 13 and Georgia, 8, and his Skelmesrdale home on a permanent basis when he was made redundant, allowing his wife Maxine, 37, to work as an assistant to a pharmacist. He was at home when he first found out that he might have "cleaned up" with the lotto as well.

"I was on the phone to my brother-in-law and he read off the numbers from that evening's Lotto draw for me," he explained. "I casually pulled out the crumpled ticket from my trouser pocket to discover that five of the numbers and the bonus ball matched those being called out over the phone."

The numbers for 3 June were 4, 6, 7, 9, 27, 39 and the bonus ball was 20. However, it took more than a simple recitation of the numbers by his brother to convince Roy that he really had won with a Lucky Dip ticket bought at the local Asda.

"I was in disbelief and immediately called Maxine, who came home," he said. "We drove to Asda and it was only when they checked the ticket that I knew I'd won."

Roy and Maxine celebrated with champagne and then started to plan how they would spend their domestic windfall.

"I'm looking forward to taking my family on holiday," Roy explained, "especially as the children haven't been abroad before. I may even treat myself to a BMW 381 convertible. We will put the rest of the money away for the future though."
