Belgian Player Wins Euromillions Birthday Jackpot

Last Updated: Wednesday 7th August 2013, 12:50

A single player from Belgium scooped the massive €100 million Euromillions superdraw jackpot in the draw held on 9 February. The jackpot fund, which equated to around £66 million, was on offer to mark the third birthday of the Euromillions lottery which was launched in February 2004.

The €100 million jackpot was immune from the usual rollover rule, and this meant that it would have been distributed to second prize tier winners if no top prize winner was found. Many players entered thinking that the jackpot would prove to be as elusive as usual, and roll down to lesser prize winners, but as it turned out this wasn't the case - presumably to the extreme delight of the lucky Belgian winner.

Although the €100 million jackpot is right up there at the top of the league as far as Euromillions jackpot payouts are concerned, it still leaves Dolores McNamara holding the record for the biggest individual Euromillions win, because she landed a prize of €115 million in 1995. The biggest Euromillions jackpot overall was €183,573,077, and this was shared by three winners in February 2006.

The player from Belgium matched all five main numbers (14, 16, 30, 36, 46) and both lucky star numbers (2 and 8) to win the third birthday prize. The odds of them doing this were just 1 in 76,275,360, but such mathematical probabilities are likely nothing but a talking point to the individual who was lucky enough to beat them. No details of the winner have yet been released, but we think it's a fairly safe bet to say that they're happy with the result!

With the third birthday celebrations now over, the jackpot for the next Euromillions draw on Friday 16 February stands at €15 million, and the normal rollover rule comes back into play.
