Indiana Wins Powerball

Last Updated: Thursday 22nd November 2018, 14:56

Powerball A lottery player from Indiana has won a Powerball jackpot worth $57.6 million in the draw that was held on Saturday 24 November, 2008. Although the prize has yet to be claimed, Hoosier Lottery officials know that the winning ticket was bought from Kanti’s Lifestyles, a greeting cards store.

The owners of Kanti’s Lifestyles are Suresh and Devika Kheradiya, and they are both delighted to have sold the winning ticket. “I hope it's someone in the building,” Sonny said when he found out about the win. “This is my tower!”

Powerball is one of the two most popular multi-state lotteries in the USA, and the game is played in 29 states as well as the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. In February 2009 the state of Florida will also join the Powerball family.

To participate, players must select 5 main numbers from 1 to 55 and 1 Powerball number from 1 to 42. If they match all of their selections they win the jackpot, and beat odds of 1 in 146,107,962 in the process. Draws are held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. The lottery results for the draw on Saturday 24 November were 17, 19, 26, 32 and 45, and the Powerball was 14.

Anyone who wins a Powerball jackpot must decide whether they want to receive their prize in 30 installments over a period of 29 years, or as a smaller cash lump sum. In this case the lump sum option would be worth $30,815,336.

The state of Indiana is no stranger to Powerball jackpots. In fact, two of the five biggest Powerball jackpots were won by Hoosier Lottery players. These were worth $314.3 million and $295 million. Although the latest win of $57.6 million doesn’t come close to those earlier prizes, you can bet your bottom dollar that the winner will be more than happy with their success.
