Blue and Green Scratchcard

Last Updated: Tuesday 22nd June 2010, 15:45

Scratchcard A couple of National Lottery scratchcards players from Southwold in Suffolk are celebrating after winning the top £100,000 prize in the Blue and Green scratchcard game. Tony Block and his wife Joan bought their scratchcard when doing their weekly shop at Morrisons supermarket.

There is an old saying that “blue and green should never be seen” but Tony and Jean have proved that such superstitions are rarely accurate. Tony is 83 years old and Jean is 78, and with three children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, the couple have plenty of family members that they want to treat. They also want to spend some of their money on home improvements and a well deserved holiday.

“After we had cleared away our evening meal I decided to check the Scratchcard,” Joan said. “I remember having a bit of a chuckle with myself when two £100,000 symbols appeared on the top line. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I revealed the third matching symbol on the second line. I just couldn’t believe it was true, so I showed it to my son who was in the room with me at the time. All I remember him saying is ‘You’ve done it Mum, you’ve won!’”

With the economy currently doing backflips and people beginning to think about Christmas shopping, the lottery win couldn’t have come at a better time for the couple. “Winning this amount of money means the world to us - and our family,” Tony said. “We have a large family who all live close by so we’re determined to treat them, spend a bit on the house - and hopefully have a lovely holiday too. And it means we don’t have to worry too much about the bills for a while!”

The Blue and Green Scratchcard costs £1 and gives players a 1 in 4.9 chance of winning a prize.
