EuroMillions Superdraw Shared

Last Updated: Monday 23rd November 2015, 16:49

The EuroMillions Superdraw jackpot of £102 million on Friday 26 September, 2008, was shared between 15 players who matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star number. This was due to the fact that no player won the jackpot outright, so the cash had to be rolled down according to the rules that govern Superdraws.

Four of the second-tier prize winners were from the UK, with one more in Belgium and the other ten elsewhere in Europe. One of the winners from the UK was 18 year old student Ianthe Fullagar who is currently on a gap year. She had played EuroMillions only once before the draw that changed her life on Friday, and celebrated her £7 million share of the jackpot by sitting down with her family to enjoy beans on toast, ice cream and cider.

You might expect a young multi-millionaire to start thinking of living a life of luxury, but Ianthe has not intention of abandoning her ambition to open her own law practice. She will be going to university in 2009 as planned to start working towards a degree in law. Of course, there is some time to go until then, so Ianthe is currently making arrangements to travel to Egypt. She also has her sights on a new Ford Ka.

This is the third Superdraw in a row where the jackpot has been rolled down to players matching five numbers and one Lucky Star. In February 2008 16 second-tier winners, including six Brits, received £6.4 million each. And in September 2007 14 players, again six of them British, won £6.9 million each.

It’s clear that UK lottery players have won more than their fair share of Superdraw payouts over the last three games. Out of 45 second-tier winners, a whopping 16 have been from the UK, so although there are nine participating countries, Brits have landed 35% of the Superdraw spoils in little more than twelve months.
