Viral Nation with the National Lottery

Last Updated: Friday 25th September 2020, 15:16

It’s fifteen years since the launch of the National Lottery and they’ve found a totally unique way to celebrate this event. It’s a brand new filmmaking competition – Viral Nation – and it requires budding filmmakers around the UK to submit ideas for a viral video to show how lottery money has been used around the UK.

For those of you not familiar with Viral marketing, a viral video is a short video that is distributed free on the internet (think YouTube). It’s viral because it tends to get passed from one internet user to another because of its unique, funny or original content.

The National Lottery viral campaign is concentrating on good causes and each viral video is required to show how a lottery grant has helped their community, group or even themselves on a personal level.

Ideas submitted to the Viral Nation lottery competition will each be reviewed by a team of experts and eventually five finalists will be shortlisted. Those finalists will then be invited to show their case in a YouTube video for the public to vote on which idea they would like to see transformed into a viral video. The idea with the most votes will win, it’s as simple as that.

The winning viral video will then be produced by the National Lottery with a whole day spend on shoot. The National Lottery will be providing hair and make-up artists and a costume department before being released into cyberspace to go viral!
