Lotto help for Commonwealth Games

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 15:59

With all the talk of London 2012 it would be easy to forget the Commonwealth Games which are to be held in Glasgow in 2014. Don’t worry though as there will be a lotto help for Commonwealth Games just as there has been for London 2012 in the form of new designated games and cash from the fund for good causes for the games.

There’s no denying that commitment to the 2012 Olympics have overshadowed the Commonwealth Games, not just for sports fans but also from Lottery funding. The balance, however is to be redressed with some designated games for the Commonwealth Games such as the ones that have running for London 2012 raising around £400 million.

Discussions have been taking place for a while and with the Olympic distribution fund committing £750 million of lottery cash to London 2012 it’s easy to see why the subject has been so irksome for many Scottish residents and officials recently.

Hopefully in the new year we will see new designated games, instant wins and scratchcards with cash going directly into the 2014 games fund. In turn this cash will go towards funding, training and facilities, before and after the games.

The Olympic and Commonwealth Lottery funds are just one of the ways that the National Lottery gives money back to the community through good causes and designated causes such as these. Look out for the new games which will hopefully be appearing in the new year and you too can be helping bring the dreams of athletes true.
