Welsh Towns get Christmas lotto grants

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 15:59

There’s nothing quite like receiving a big lotto grant for your local town in time for Christmas to raise the festive cheer and it seems that this year towns in South Wales are coming out top when lotto funds for good causes are being distributed. Two major Wesh towns have received big lottery grants in time to do some important work ths year so we took a look at that and what they will be receiving.

Firstly is the Lottery grant for the Capitals museum as Cardiff museum receives a massive £400,000 in a grant to help tell the story of Cardiff. The Cardiff story will be based around a core collection of 8,000 artefacts and expects to open at the city’s old library in the Hayes in a year. The Heritage Lottery Fund who are administering the grant from the good causes fund say the grant will help bring the city’s historical past back to life.

But it’s not just Cardiff as another major South Wales town is also getting a very special Christmas present from the National Lottery good causes fund and of course none of it could happen if you didn't buy lottery tickets all week for your chance to become a millionaire.

The second grant – which is actually made up of many individual grants – is for the Neath Port Talbot region of South Wales and is worth a massive £4 million from the People and Places Big Lottery Fund.  The amount of the fund has meant that this area has been awarded more money per head of population than any other area in Wales. The grant is made up of individual grants of which there were 38 applications, 15 of these grants were successful, ensuring a massive £4 for the area.

Of course the good causes fund is one fo the best things about the UK Lotto and again this just shows what a difference these grants are making to the lives of the communities in these areas.
