Euromillions Sting for Fast Car Fanatic

Last Updated: Thursday 7th July 2011, 16:12

Euromillions It seems that there are some things money can’t buy as one Euromillions winner found out to his peril. Frenchman Pascal Brun won over €26 million on the Euromillions Lottery in 2004 was caught drunk behind the wheel of his car and foolishly tried to bribe the policemen who caught him. But now he has discovered that money can’t buy you out of trouble no matter how big your lotto win is.

Since winning the Euromillions Lottery Mr Brun had indulged his love of all things fast and began to collect Italian Sports cars, however it seems the winner thought his millions put him above the law and was caught drunk behind the wheel of his yellow Ferrari near the sea front in Bordeaux.

The traffic police who apprehended the lottery winner found him to be more than four times over the French drink-drive limit and were about to charge him when Mr Brun invited them to his home and offered them €1,000 each to turn a blind eye to the offence.

Not to be bought, the police charged him with drink-driving and trying to corrupt a public official and now the case has come to court. Mr Brun has been handed a six-month jail sentence, including three months suspended and been ordered to pay €500 in damages to the police officers in question.

The sentence is yet to be reviewed by a sentencing magistrate and now it will be up to him to decide if jail is appropriate or whether he can wear an electronic tag.

Either way his car has been impounded and it will be a while before Mr Brun will be indulging his love of fast cars again.

A winning lottery ticket certainly doesn’t make you above the law as Mr Brun found out to his peril.
