Lottery Boost for Handymen

Last Updated: Friday 25th September 2020, 15:13

A handyman service for residents of one Scottish community is among recently chosen projects to receive hundreds of thousands of pounds from the Big Lottery Fund. The lottery boost will help set up a handyman service for residents of the Highlands of Kilmuir and Logie for elderly residents to get basic DIY jobs in and around their homes done.

The group has secured over half a million of lottery money for good causes to ensure this service is set up and will also include other services for its groups and residents.

It is hoped the handyman service will fill a gap in services not provided by the Highland council and will means that older residents can either receive help with simple tasks such as putting shelves up, or even something as simple as borrowing a screwdriver to do the jobs on their own.

It’s not the only group to benefit from cash created by your lottery tickets, Pultneytown People’s Project has also secured a massive £1 million to build a brand new community centre. This has been proposed as part of Pultneytown People’s project wider plans to regenerate the area and will offer services such as childcare, a cafe and an IT suite within the new community centre.

It’s one of many ways that a small amount of National Lottery money can go a lotto way to help residents and groups across the UK and although – relatively speaking – the amounts of money are not so big it’s one of the ways that the Big Lottery Fund is making big differences to small communities and projects across the UK.

So next time you fancy grabbing yourself a lucky dip or scratchcard it’s nice to know that your lotto money is going to help such good causes across the UK.
