Lydney EuroMillons

Euromillions A man from Lydney who makes a living as a self-employed street lamp cleaner won £192,230 in the EuroMillions game on Friday 9 January, 2009. David Neale, who is 34, matched all five main numbers and one Lucky Star, and in doing so became one of thirteen second-tier prize winners.

Unlike some National Lottery players who don’t check their lottery results until days or even weeks after the draw has taken place, David was sensible enough to check his numbers straight away.

“I had just worked a really long day, from dawn to dusk,” he explained. “When I finally got home I checked the numbers on Teletext and couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I rang round my family and friends to tell them the great news. They wouldn’t believe me at first, they thought I was joking!”

Although the £50 million EuroMillions jackpot eluded him, the £192,230 prize that David won was definitely welcome because he was unfortunate enough to have been made redundant from his previous job just before Christmas. He also has a ten month old son with his girlfriend, Bev Freeman.

“It was difficult being laid off, especially just before Christmas, so I decided to work as a self-employed street lamp cleaner to help make ends meet,” David said. “This win is a great start to the New Year for us and gives us much needed stability. We celebrated by having a couple of friends round for a glass of champagne.”

David and Bev are now thinking about how to spend their win wisely. The shopping list currently includes a new house and a new car, and there is talk of a possible wedding on the horizon!
