Lucky 13 Lotto Winners

For the second time in the space of just one week, a syndicate of thirteen won a big Lotto prize. An Accrington syndicate jackpot of £3.9 million was won on 28 February, and on Wednesday 4 March a syndicate of workers at Travel West Midlands matched five numbers and the bonus ball to scoop £105,909.
The number thirteen really is lucky for some. As well as having thirteen members, the West Bromwich syndicate had been playing the National Lottery for thirteen months when Harpreet Singh, who leads the syndicate, proposed entering the draw on Wednesday 4 March. The other members agreed and the result was a £105,909 win!
“I thought playing on a Wednesday would be worth it – and I’m glad I have been proved right,” Harpreet said. “I was working the early shift, which means getting into work at 3:30am, but before I left home I thought I’d quickly check the numbers on Teletext. I initially thought we had five numbers. I counted again and realised it was five plus the bonus ball.”
Harpreet’s wife Daljeet had just managed to get their five month old daughter to sleep, but he couldn’t resist waking her to share the good news. Although Daljeet was initially annoyed at being woken up again in the early hours, she soon had a smile on her face when Harpreet explained what it was all about.
Having told his wife about the win, Harpreet started phoning other syndicate members, but the response was sceptical. He decided to visit the Dhesi Mini Market where he had purchased the ticket so that he could confirm the lottery results, then returned to tell everyone that they really had won. The winning ticket was then stored in Harpreet’s safe so that it wouldn’t get misplaced.
Harpreet is now planning to buy a new car and take his young family on holiday to Milan. The other syndicate members are making similar plans.
“We haven’t arranged a party yet because some of the group are away,” Harpreet said, “but we’ll no doubt have a big celebration when we are back together. Whatever we do, this win is very welcome for all of the group, especially at the moment.”
