Norwich Lottery Scam Warning

Last Updated: Thursday 7th July 2011, 16:12

Lottery Scam A warning has been issued by Norfolk County Council trading standards about lottery scams after an elderly couple of Norwich received a scam letter telling them they had won almost €1 million on a Spanish Lottery. Luckily the couple weren’t fooled by the scam but contacted Trading Standards who want to make sure that no one else is sucked in.

Charles Farmer and his Wife Hazel who are both in their 80’s received a letter from an organisation calling itself Loteria Primitiva, a company based in Madrid, Spain. The letter claimed they had won €950,210 on the lottery and asked for their bank details to process the win.

The Farmers were not fooled and immediately contacted Norwich Trading Standards informing them about the lottery scam.

In a statement from Trading Standards they said that receiving a letter saying you have won money should be a pleasant surprise but players should be on their guard. If you receive an offer that seems too good to be true then it probably is, people should never give money or personal details to anyone.

If you receive one of these lottery scam emails or letters the best thing to do is contact your local trading standards who will help you and give you assistance and it’s worth remembering that you cannot possibly win a lottery if you have not bought lottery tickets.

There are so many of these lottery scams going around right now that people really need to keep their wits about them, remember if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
