Giant Lottery grant for Giants Causeway

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 15:56

One of Northern Irelands most popular tourist attractions the Giants Causeway is to get a giant boost from the UK Lottery good causes fund in the form of £3 million of lottery money from the Lottery Heritage Fund.

Of course the Giants Causeway isn’t man-made so why would it need lottery funding? Well this ambitious project – said to cost £18 million – is to build a visitors centre at the Giants Causeway offering fantastic facilities for visitors.

The visitors centre – partly paid for by a lottery grant for good causes – will offer insight into the history of the natural phenomenon, interpretation into its history and help to attract even more visitors to the unique attraction every year.

This cash, brought about by sales of lottery tickets in the UK means that the Giant Causeway and the Causeway Heritage site will be sustained and treasured forever, by our generation and future generations too.

Work on the project is due to start in the next few weeks, thanks to this cash injection from the World Heritage Fund, part of the good causes section of Camelot.

This is just one of the many ways in which lottery cash and the sale of lottery tickets is improving Heritage and communities throughout the UK and it’s only thanks to the public buying lotto tickets every week that this sort of work is possible.

The visitor’s centre at the Giants Causeway doesn’t yet have a completion date but now that work is starting, the supporters of the idea must be getting very excited.
