Big Lottery Fund lets public decide

Last Updated: Wednesday 5th January 2011, 11:09

MoneyThe Big Lottery Fund – part of the National Lottery – has got together with ITV to let the public decide where over £3 million in lottery grants will end up. The lottery initiative is planned to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and community groups are already being invited to bid for their local projects. In total there will be 60 Jubilee People’s Millions grants, each worth £60,000, that means there will be £3.6 million in grants to be given away!

All applications for the projects must be submitted by 4th February 2011 and the projects that receive the most votes will then receive the funds next summer, to use in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

In June next year, all finalists of the Big Lottery Fund will be showcased on the ITV regional news next year, allowing people to see what lottery projects are being supported in their area.

It’s just another way that millions of pounds of your money, goes to help good causes in the UK every single week, and it’s all made possible by the sale of lottery tickets, with 26p in every pound going to lottery good causes.

In other lottery news, tomorrow brings a double rollover, with an estimated £11 million jackpot. If you haven’t bought your lottery tickets for the big draw yet then you’re running out of time to do so. Buy your lottery tickets now and you can rest safe in the knowledge that you are raising cash for charity and community projects too!
