EuroMillions September Superdraw

Last Updated: Thursday 15th January 2015, 15:51

The Euromillions £88 Millions Special Superdraw took place on Friday 28th September. The massive jackpot rolled down to the 5+1 tier which was shared by 14 players (6 from UK, 5 from Spain, 2 from France and one Belgian). Each UK player won £6,989,367 at astounding odds of just 1 in 5,448,240. Wouldn't you like to play that every week?

EuroMillions players in nine countries are bracing themselves for a guaranteed payout this Friday that will be worth around €130million (£88 million for UK readers). Normally, guaranteed payouts only occur when the jackpot fund is rolled over the maximum number of times, but for certain "celebratory" draws (which includes the one taking place on Friday 28 September) the rollover doesn’t happen. Instead, if no player matches 5 main numbers from 1 to 50 and 2 Lucky Star numbers from 1 to 9, the jackpot fund is "rolled down" to the next level that does have winners. This is generally the second prize tier, which requires players to match five main numbers and just one Lucky Star instead of two.

Whilst the majority of Euromillions players will no doubt be hoping that they will be lucky enough to scoop the entire €130 million jackpot as an individual winner, others will be just as happy with the idea of sharing it with a small bunch of second tier prize winners. The odds of winning the second tier prize are 1 in 5,448,240 (in comparison with odds of 1 in 76,275,360 to win the top prize) so whilst there are always more second-level prize winners (there were eight last week and five the week before), €130 million between them could still mean they all walk away as multi-millionaires.

Large jackpots are nothing new to Euromillions players. The largest jackpot on record was worth a whopping 183 million and this was achieved thanks to the lottery rolling over the maximum number of times. No jackpot winner was found on this occasion, so twenty players who matched five main numbers and one Lucky Star shared the spoils. And because these second tier winners also shared the second tier prize fund they each received a staggering €9.6 million - not bad for placing second!

With €130 million up for grabs, there are plenty of good reas
