Somerset Churches to get Lotto grant

Three Somerset churches are to receive a lottery heritage grant totally more than £180,000. The lottery grants will allow urgent repairs on the churches, preventing closure and allowing future generations to enjoy these beautiful buildings. The money, from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and part of the Places of Worship scheme will be awarded to the three churches in the Diocese of Bath and Wells, giving a big Lotto boost to the area.
The three churches are Holy Trinity church, who will receive £42,000, St Peter and St Paul church who are awarded £52,000 and St Andrew’s church, awarded £92,000. In total that’s more than £180,000, keeping these places of worship open to future generations, and all thanks to the sale of lottery tickets in the UK.
Ross Symonds of the Lottery Heritage Fund told the BBC that the lottery fund will also be providing, experts and architects as many churches are built to a unique design, giving them not just the cash but the expertise to get the jobs done. All three churches are set for closure if the repairs are not done and so it’s thanks to lottery players that these places of worship will stay open for the future.
