Give Thunderball A Shot

Last Updated: Saturday 22nd October 2011, 20:58

With big jackpots available to win like the estimated £126 million on the EuroMillions and £4.1 million on the National Lottery, it is no one wonder that Thunderball is sometimes overlooked. However,  Thunderball is anyone’s best chance of winning £500,000 on a £1 game, so suddenly giving Thunderball a shot doesn’t sound all that bad. Even though there are never any rollovers if the top prize is not won, anyone who does win the prize fund will never have to share it amongst other winners as it is a fixed amount.

There are a total of nine prize funds available that range from £3 to £500,000. To win three pounds all you have to do it match the Thunderball and the odds are low at one in fourteen. However, to win the highest amount available, £500,000 the odds are higher at 1 in 8,060,598, but not as high as they are for winning the jackpot in the EuroMillions which is 1 in 16,531,800.

Since the rule change on the 9th of May 2010, Thunderball increased its number of the main balls from 34 to 39. Draws take place three times a week on a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and over a hundred thousand people were winners on the lowest prize tier last Saturday night, compared to roughly just 75,000 on the previous midweek draw and under 50,000 on last Friday night's draw. Small fry in comparison to the winners of the lower prize tiers on a game like Euromillions.

Wednesday night saw the Thunderball results as 5, 16, 20, 26, 28 and the Thunderball of 4 being drawn out. Although no one managed to match all five balls and the Thunderball, two people did match five balls to win £5,000 and over 500 people won £100 just by matching four numbers. Yes, to win on the lottery is does take luck but if you are prepared to lower the amount you want to win and increase your chances, then maybe you should considered giving Thunderball a blast.
