Lottery Grant for Torre Abbey

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 12:42

A £2.8 million lottery grant paid to Torbay Council will be put into the next phase of regeneration at Torre Abbey, helping to restore the 800 year old Abbey back to its former glory. The Abbey is the best preserved medieval building in Devon and Cornwall and this massive lottery grant is guaranteed to preserve it for future generations. It was a hard-won lottery grant for Torbay Council who had to compete against other heritage sites such as Stonehenge for the grant.

Now it is hoped that Torbay Council will match the lottery grant, allowing almost £6 million of work to be done on the Abbey. Work on Torre Abbey would mean that the medieval ruins could be preserved for future generations and it’s also hoped that a museum will be added, giving people insight into the history of the local area.

Of course if the Abbey sees this renovation work, almost £6 million worth, it should become more appealing to visitors to the area and local people alike, and would be yet another heritage site rescued by lottery funds. This is all thanks to the lottery tickets that you buy every week, allowing good causes to help projects such as this one, and many others around the UK.

The next UK Lotto draw is this evening, and you can help worthy good causes such as this one when you buy lottery tickets for the draw, while also giving yourself a shot at the £2.4 million jackpot.
