Britains Biggest Winner

Last Updated: Friday 28th February 2014, 16:18

Angela Kelly from Glasgow has been named as Britain's biggest ever Lottery winner after coming forward to claim the £35.4 million EuroMillions jackpot of Friday 10 August.

Angela, who works for the Glasgow Mail Centre, was reading about the unclaimed prize in her newspaper on the Monday after the draw when she remembered that she had yet to check her ticket. She did so at lunchtime and was amazed to discover that she was in fact the mystery jackpot winner.

Angela explained how she felt at the time of the discovery, saying, "I didn't know what to do at first - I just couldn't believe it. It was only when everyone in the office started cheering that I realised that it must have been me who'd won. I rang the National Lottery phoneline there and then to make my claim but my hands were shaking so much that it was really difficult to write my name on the back of the ticket like they asked.

"My son rang me at work shortly afterwards so I said to him, 'We've won a wee bit of money!' and then had to call him back later to tell him the big news properly when it had quietened down a bit," Angela continued. "It is such an amazing feeling to have won this much money but to be honest, I'm still in shock and it's only just starting to sink in"

Although it will no doubt take quite a bit of time for Angela to get used to being a multi-millionaire, she has managed to get started on her shopping list. At the time of writing it includes upgrading a trip to Canada that had already been arranged, buying a new home, buying a new car, getting her nails done and planning the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii.
