Cheers! Pub Landlord has a Drink to Celebrate £1 Million Win

Last Updated: Wednesday 13th August 2014, 16:11

Friday 13th might be unlucky for some but one Welsh landlord would definitely disagree after scooping a £1 million prize in the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle. 48-year-old Nigel Willetts matched the winning raffle code MKX532718 to secure a seven figure sum on the day which is notorious for bringing bad luck.

Nigel, who owns the Bridgend Inn in Bedwas, discovered his win the morning after the draw took place after he checked the results on his phone. Unconvinced, Nigel asked his partner Jane Whittingham to double check the code but she too was reluctant to believe they’d won. The couple returned to the retailer that had sold Nigel his winning ticket, the Tesco in Crossways Park, and asked a cashier to confirm the win. It was only then that the pair began to celebrate.

The first port of call was the local pub where Nigel held celebratory drinks and began to plan how he’d spend the win. A brand new Range Rover and a luxury holiday are top of the list but, according to Nigel, his family have also put in a few requests.

The same draw also proved to be incredibly lucky for one Spanish player who won the largest EuroMillions jackpot seen so far this year, worth an impressive £109 million.

The next EuroMillions draw takes place on Friday and, in addition to offering players a jackpot of £20 million, will see another UK ticket holder follow in Nigel’s footsteps and scoop a £1 million Millionaire Raffle prize.
