Friends Come Forward to Claim £1 Million EuroMillions Win

Last Updated: Wednesday 14th May 2014, 13:27

euromillionsTwo lucky friends have come forward to claim their £1 million win from the Millionaire Raffle draw on Tuesday 4th March. The lucky duo came forward yesterday and named as Ian Wilton, 63, from Tring and Steve Leighfield, 57, a self-employed car mechanic in Berkhamsted.

The friends have been buying Lotto tickets since the game started in 1994 and after winning £25 on the Lotto, Ian suggested that they use some of their winnings to purchase five EuroMillions tickets. As luck would have it, one of the tickets matched the Millionaire Raffle code CXW781222 from the draw on Tuesday 4th March, resulting in the pair landing a £1 million prize.

Ian checked the numbers on the night of the draw and immediately phoned Steve to tell him the good news. “I could hardly speak, I was just trying to get the words out,” said Ian. Commenting on the late night call from Ian, Steve said “It was quarter to eleven at night when Ian called with the news but you always expect the worst when there’s a phone call that late so it took a while for the fact that we’d won to really register.”

Now that the news has sunk in, Ian has got his eye on a new car. Speaking to officials, Ian said, “I’m planning to retire in 18 months so this win will be a lovely nest egg to make that retirement so much more enjoyable. But, if I were to buy one thing before then, it would be a brand new white Range Rover.

Steve added, “I might invest in some properties to rent out rather than splash out on holidays and cars for now. Having said that one of my daughter’s [is] celebrating her fortieth birthday in Las Vegas next year so my wife Tina and I have already decided we’re going to join her.”

National-Lottery.com would like to congratulate Ian and Steve on their new found fortune and wish them all the best for the future.
