Voting Open for National Lottery Awards

Last Updated: Wednesday 13th August 2014, 16:11

Voting is now underway for the prestigious National Lottery Awards after officials released a full list of the worthy finalists. Every year, the National Lottery hosts the esteemed event to give the people behind the life-changing, lottery funded projects a chance to share their story with the nation.

The Good Causes Fund was established in 1994, alongside the National Lottery, and is responsible for allocating the funds raised by ticket sales and unclaimed prizes in the UK. Each week, approximately £33 million is donated to the Good Causes Fund which is then distributed between the seven categories of Arts, Education, Environment, Health, Heritage, Sport and Charity/Voluntary.

Last year’s winners included the Misfit’s Theatre Company which delivers training about social inclusion and disability issues to health and social care professionals and My Sister’s Place, in the Charity/Voluntary category, which provides support and advice to women who have been victims of domestic violence.

There are seven finalists in each of the seven categories and whichever project receives the most votes will win a cash prize to spend on their project. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in September after the period of public voting closes at midnight on 23rd July.

The National Lottery Awards are held to celebrate the tremendous efforts of everyone involved with the Good Causes Fund and bring those who work tirelessly behind the scenes into the well-deserved limelight.
