Lotto Grant Supports Recession Hit Communities in Liverpool

A £324,489 National Lottery grant is being used to help recession-hit families and individuals in north Liverpool. Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council will work with the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), Liverpool FC Foundation and the Council Neighbourhood Team in order to give support to 1,500 people over the course of three years.
The project’s aim is to help people affected by the recession get into work and give advice on issues such as money management, digital exclusion and unhealthy lifestyles. There will be teams of trained volunteers delivering advice on healthy eating and Liverpool FC’s Reduc@te team will be helping to get people online and explore the opportunities available to them through the use of the Internet.
Bob Blanchard, director of funding and development at Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council, said, “This funding will help us achieve our goal of helping local people in north Liverpool most affected by economic downturn and welfare reforms.
“There is a real need for this project in our area where there is little other support available for people, especially with many charities having had their funding cut in recent years.
“By involving people in volunteering roles with this project we hope to build capacity, make the project more sustainable and increase employability.”
The initiative is being funded through the National Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities programme, which provides support for UK communities most in need.
Tim Davies-Pugh, Big Lottery Fund deputy director for England, said: “This project run by Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council will help empower local people affected by welfare reforms to make positive changes to their lives and build brighter futures.
“This award is just one of 21 across England receiving funding today through our Reaching Communities programme which is all about helping people and communities most in need.”
