North Ayrshire Benefits from More Than £35 Million in Lottery Funding

Last Updated: Tuesday 26th August 2014, 15:26

Lottery officials have revealed that the county of North Ayrshire in Scotland has received over £35 million in funding from the National Lottery Good Causes Fund. Records show that since the Good Causes Fund was launched in 1994, there have been 1,215 grants awarded to communities in the region thanks to the revenue raised through lottery ticket sales.

Over £8.4 million has been allocated to heritage projects in the region, including the transformation of the Barony Church in West Kilbride into an arts and crafts centre. An astonishing £19.7 million has been dedicated to projects that focus on health, environmental concerns, education and charitable projects. An additional £4.5 million has benefited sports programs while £3.1 million has been allocated to the arts over the last 20 years.

Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael applauded the beneficial contributions made to North Ayrshire by the National Lottery, the Big Lottery Fund and the Good Causes Fund, saying that the funding had given vital support to communities in desperate need of regeneration and that it had enhanced the quality of life for residents of the area. He called it “a brilliant example of what we can achieve together as part of the UK.”

Approximately 70 percent of the adult population in the UK plays draw games and instant win games offered through the National Lottery and 28p of every £1 raised is allocated to good causes.
