Car Service Manager Bags Big Win after Finding Ticket in Bin

Last Updated: Wednesday 28th October 2015, 08:53

A car service manager from Liverpool has revealed how he had a lucky escape after realising that he had thrown out a Lotto ticket worth £30,000. Russ Standish, a 48-year-old father of two, had to empty the contents of his bin bag onto the floor at work after a frantic search and was relieved to discover his winning entry.

“I couldn’t find the ticket anywhere. But I knew I’d had it in my office, ” Russ said in the Liverpool Echo. “I turned the place upside down and I couldn’t find it. The binmen had been the day before and emptied all the bins, but they’d left one black bin bag. I got the bag and threw it out over the floor and the ticket just came floating out.”

Russ, who admitted that he was ‘over the moon’ to find the ticket, won after matching three vouchers from the Liverpool Echo to his Lotto ticket. He added: “The main thing is that I’ll be able to treat my family and clear my debts. I can't wait to be debt-free for Christmas. It’s fantastic. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.”

Another player celebrating this week is the ticket holder from Barnet who has come forward to claim their Lotto prize of £1 million within hours of an appeal from the media. There were 25 participants who each matched one of the winning Lotto Millionaire Raffle codes when the revamped game was launched on Saturday 10th October, but four winners have still not yet stepped forward.

The Lotto jackpot rolled over three times in a row when the changes came into effect earlier this month, but the top prize has since been scooped in the last two draws. First, one lucky player landed £14.6 million on Wednesday 21st October, and then on Saturday night a single ticket holder matched all six main numbers to pick up £4.3 million. There were three numbers in the 50s on Saturday night and it may be that you are tempted to try out a new combination ahead of tonight’s draw, when the jackpot will be worth an estimated £2.3 million. The Lotto Number Generator will provide a random selection for you to consider if you fancy a change from your usual numbers, and then you just need to make sure you buy a ticket by either playing online or visiting any authorised retailer across the UK. Best of luck!
