Irish Lotto Enters New Era as Changes Come into Effect

Last Updated: Wednesday 11th November 2020, 11:49

As fans in the UK get ready for Lotto changes to come into effect next month, there will be a lot of curious eyes on events across the Irish Sea this weekend. The Irish Lotto draw on Saturday 5th September will be the first to take place since the game was adapted in a bid to bring even more excitement to players. Like the UK Lotto, average jackpots are set to get bigger and the overall odds of winning a prize will improve, so tickets are sure to be snapped up in droves as a new era dawns on Irish Lotto while UK players keep tabs on prize payouts and top prize amounts.

Similar to the planned changes for UK Lotto, which will see the ball pool increase to 59, the key difference for Irish Lotto players is that they will now select six numbers from a pool of 47, while the cost of a ticket will be €2 per line, with a minimum purchase of two lines. The introduction of a new prize tier for matching two main numbers plus the Bonus Ball means there is now a better chance of winning a prize, while there will be bigger cash rewards in Lotto Plus 1 and a new Lotto Plus Raffle will offer prizes of €300. The Irish Lotto jackpot for Saturday’s historic draw will stand at an estimated €5.5 million, after no one matched all six main numbers on Wednesday. There has been a run of seven rollovers since the top prize was last won on Saturday 8th August by a duo on holiday in Rosslare who picked up €2.5 million.

It would be a perfect start for this new chapter in Irish Lotto history if the jackpot were to be won on Saturday. Tickets can be bought from authorised retailers in Ireland but you don’t have to travel to the country in order to play. Remember, the UK Lotto is set for big changes in October but you can enter Irish Lotto online today for your chance to pocket €5.5 million or one of the fabulous new prizes on offer. Best of luck!
