Lottery Grants Helping To Restore Local Heritage Projects

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 11:06

As Lotto players set their sights on a jackpot of £2.1 million in tonight’s draw, they can also take satisfaction from knowing that money raised from ticket sales will go towards good causes. The latest round of lottery grants have been announced this week and many of the UK’s parks and cemeteries are to receive funding for regeneration.

The Heritage Lottery Fund supports projects of historic significance to the nation and helps to restore run-down sites for the good of local communities. It has been revealed this week that 12 projects in England have either been confirmed to receive grants or have been earmarked for funding, including £4.5 million for Hanley Park in Stoke. One of the largest Victorian parks in the country, it is expected to take 18 months to restore and improve many of its iconic features, such as a 19th century pavilion and historic boathouse.

Two parks in Scotland will also receive a total of £7.2 million in funding, with grants awarded to both Lews Castle Grounds in Stornoway and Kilmarnock’s Dean Castle Park. Iain Maciver, from the Stornoway Trust, said: “We are indebted to HLF for allowing us to further progress our vision for the revitalisation of our wonderful legacy.”

The Good Causes Fund is allocated 28p from every £1 spent on ticket sales to give to various projects and worthy causes, so even if you aren’t lucky enough to win one of the big prizes on Lotto this evening, it is good to know you are still making a difference when you buy a ticket. It could well be that the jackpot is won tonight, though, as the warm weather spreading over the country has coincided with a great winning run recently.

A jackpot of £5.8 million was snapped up by one ticket holder a week ago on Wednesday 24th June and the top prize of £3.3 million was won again last Saturday night. Going back to Wednesday 17th June, when three participants split £12.9 million, there have been five players to match all six main numbers in the last four draws. If you fancy getting involved in tonight’s game, then you can buy a ticket either online or by visiting an authorised retailer. You will be raising money for the Good Causes Fund and, you never know, you could get your hands on more than £2 million. Good luck!
