One Week to Go Before Lotto Changes Take Effect

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 14:22

Tonight’s Lotto draw, along with Saturday’s game and next Wednesday's, will be the last three under the current Lotto rules before several big changes come into effect on Thursday 8th October. The reaction to the news, which came out over the summer, has been mixed, with some players expressing concern over the new format, especially since Lotto underwent significant alterations just two years ago, but National Lottery officials are confident that the game will attract more players and continue to raise vital funds for good causes.

You’ll have more numbers to choose from starting from Thursday of next week - the ball pool will expand from 49 to 59. For example, if you’ve always felt that 55 was your lucky number, now’s the time to get it on your ticket! A new prize tier has also been created, granting players who match two main numbers a Free Lucky Dip for a future Lotto draw. Best of all, your odds of becoming a millionaire will become a lot shorter thanks to the introduction of the Lotto Millionaire Raffle, which will see one ticket holder scoop £1 million in every draw. Instead of a 14 million to 1 shot at winning the jackpot, you now have odds of 1 in 10 million of winning a seven-figure sum.

The four-rollover cap will also be removed, which will generate bigger jackpots - imagine grabbing a £20 million or £25 million jackpot just by playing Lotto! A full list of the features of the revamped Lotto game can be found at the National Lottery Changes page.

Whether you’re a fan of the current Lotto format or you’re excited for the fresh take on this great British lottery, the only way to win it is to be in it. Tonight’s drawing will feature a jackpot worth an estimated £2 million, with tickets available online or from authorised retailers up until 7.30pm BST. Good luck!
