Claim Made for Largest Single-Ticket Lotto Jackpot

Last Updated: Friday 8th April 2016, 09:03

A claim has been staked for Wednesday’s £35.1 million Lotto jackpot, lottery operator Camelot has confirmed. The mammoth sum is the largest single ticket top prize ever to have been won in the history of the game, beating the previous record set earlier this year when two tickets shared a £66 million reward.

Camelot has not yet revealed whether the winning ticket belongs to an individual or was won by a syndicate, or even where it was purchased. However, the lottery organisers did confirm that a validation appointment would be arranged, with the ticket holder then deciding whether or not they wished to go public with their joyous news or remain anonymous. "We're delighted this ticket-holder has come forward to claim their prize so they can now begin to enjoy their life changing win," a spokesman for the National Lottery confirmed.

The winner of this incredible prize has made history by claiming the largest single ticket jackpot win Lotto has ever seen. Just four months ago, the record had remained untouched for over two decades, with two business partners from St Leonards-on-Sea claiming a jackpot of £22.5 million in 1995 on a shared ticket. However, that milestone was surpassed earlier this year when a £66 million top prize was shared between David and Carol Martin from the Scottish Borders and a player from Worcester who chose to remain anonymous. This latest win will see the history books rewritten once more as the winner takes their place at the top of the table of largest Lotto jackpot winners.

Saturday’s Lotto jackpot is estimated to be an amazing £4.2 million, with another ten Lotto Millionaire Raffle prizes of £1 million each set to be awarded on the night to celebrate ten years of Britain’s Got Talent. Buying even one ticket could see you collect a giant cheque this time next week. However, if you’d prefer to share the emotion of a big win with others, head to the Lotto Syndicates page for more information on how to play as a group and improve your odds of winning. As always, tickets can be purchased online or from any authorised retailer from across the country. Best of luck!
