Staffordshire Village Sees Second Millionaire Maker Win in a Year

Millionaire Maker lightning has struck twice in the village of Featherstone in Staffordshire after two of its less than 5,000 residents hit the £1 million top prize in the supplementary EuroMillions raffle within eight months of each other. Lorry driver Stuart Powell and wife Denise picked up a giant cheque in December 2015 and now supermarket worker Amanda Lewis has come forward to claim her prize from the draw on Tuesday 7th June.
Amanda purchased her winning ticket after working late at the Asda store in Wolverhampton at which she has been employed for 14 years. She told a press conference that she was picking up some shopping before heading home when she decided to have a flutter on EuroMillions. "I was £2.60 in credit having won £2 on a previous lottery draw and decided to cash it in for another ticket and have the 60p in change,” she remembered, “I had a Lucky Dip and didn’t think about it anymore until the next day.”
The mum of two admitted that she had checked the ticket against the numbers for the main draw, but had forgotten to look up the winning Millionaire Maker code, almost falling into a trap that has seen a number of £1 million wins from both the additional EuroMillions game and Lotto Millionaire Raffle go unclaimed recently. Thankfully, she let a co-worker at the shop’s lottery desk scan the slip and discovered her massive win. Amanda says she will sit down with her husband Barry to discuss how to spend the windfall, although she revealed they planned to buy cars for their 21-year-old twins Ryan and Charlotte and to go on a family break, possibly to Cyprus.
Even with two big wins within a year, Featherstone may not yet be challenging Romford for the title of the luckiest place to buy lottery tickets, but residents of the village will be snapping up entries for tonight’s £7.7 million Lotto jackpot and Friday’s £32 million EuroMillions draw, hoping that some of the good luck rubs off on them and they are the next to receive a visit from one of the National Lottery’s winners’ advisors.
