How A EuroMillions Winner Saved The Cambridge Rock Festival

Last Updated: Wednesday 29th March 2017, 09:16

The director of the Cambridge Rock Festival has thanked EuroMillions winner Adrian Bayford for saving the day after he offered to host the 2017 event in the grounds of his estate. Bayford, who scooped a phenomenal £148.6 million back in 2012, stepped in when he heard that the festival might not be able to go ahead this year.

The festival has traditionally been held at a farm near Barton, but director Dave Roberts had been in need of sponsorship and says the offer of free premises will make ‘a big difference’. Bayford has always had a keen interest in music and launched a shop called Black Barn Records in Cambridge last year in his latest business venture since winning the EuroMillions jackpot.

Bayford’s company will now also sponsor the 2017 festival, which will take place on his £6 million Horseheath estate from 3rd to 6th August, and around 3,000 people are expected to attend. Roberts said: “I know Adrian would like to do lots of things with his estate and (that’s) great, he’s a lovely fellow, and absolutely into his music. He has come to us with his love of music so the two knitted together.”

Bayford, who claimed his EuroMillions success with then-wife Gillian, remains the second biggest winner in the history of the UK National Lottery, behind Christine and Colin Weir of Largs in Ayrshire. The Weirs won £161.6 million in 2011 and have also become well-known for their acts of generosity, which include paying for a new prosthetic leg for a 13-year-old boy who lost his limb to cancer, as well as many charitable donations.

A big National Lottery win creates opportunities to help other people, start up businesses or simply live out your dreams. The EuroMillions jackpot currently stands at £50 million after another rollover last night, while there will be £5.6 million on offer in tonight’s Lotto draw. Whether you want to win a fantastic prize on Lotto, EuroMillions, or both, you can choose your numbers online now or go to an authorised retailer. Good luck!
