EuroMillions Could Create New Record UK Win

Last Updated: Monday 4th October 2021, 14:15

As the EuroMillions jackpot continues to power its way upwards, there is a chance that a new national record could be set for the largest UK win in lottery history.

The top prize has quickly climbed past £150 million following a Superdraw rollover on 24th September and subsequent draws without a winner.

It could even reach as high as €220 million (approximately £188 million). That is the value of the jackpot cap, and at that point no more funds can be added to the top prize.

An incredible pay day is therefore looming large for at least one lucky player in the next few draws, and the UK has been more successful than any other participating country since EuroMillions began.

There have been 114 jackpot winners from the UK in total, including five this year. The most recent was a player who split £54 million with two other European ticket holders at the end of August, but the next one could be the biggest of the lot.

UK Record Breakers

The record for the biggest UK lottery win dates back almost exactly two years to 8th October 2019. The EuroMillions jackpot grew from its minimum amount all the way to €190 million (the jackpot cap at the time), before a single ticket holder won. The prize was worth £170 million.

The winner claimed their prize anonymously, so no more information was ever known about whether it was an individual or a syndicate, or even the area of the country where the ticket was sold.

Scottish couple Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in Ayrshire, had previously been the UK’s biggest winners for more than eight years. They won £161 million with a set of Lucky Dips - the first four they checked did not bring any joy but the fifth and final line proved to be a perfect match. They funnelled money into lots of causes close to their heart, including many charities, the Scottish National Party and Partick Thistle Football Club.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford are the UK’s third-biggest winners thanks to their jackpot of £148 million, which was won in August 2012. They celebrated with a family trip out for pizza, while Adrian went on to open up his own music and memorabilia shop.

A nine-figure cash injection would leave you with so many options for the future, plus a position as one of the game’s record-breakers. Keep an eye out for the EuroMillions Results as soon as the next draw has taken place.
